I just read on MSN news that the missing pregnant woman from Pa. was found dead yesterday, her body dumped somewhere out in a field, I think it was. Her boyfriend, or the guy who was a "friend with benefits" and who was very cooperative with the police initially, has been charged with double murder. He was carrying a gun and wearing a bulletproof vest when he was arrested. Jesus. Another Scott Petersen clone in our midst. They didn't disclose why he was charged of course, but truthfully, I am not surprised. Nothing surprises me anymore.
These things sadden me completely. I truly cannot comprehend WHY someone would kill someone to begin with, let alone a woman who was carrying their child. Think of Lacy Petersen, Lori Hacking, and now this one..I just don't get it. I find it more than a little bit disturbing, and equally revolting; the act itself, along with the fundamental and basic extreme cruelty of ending two lives, one not fully lived and one not really started. And for what? Selfish gain? Freedom from responsibility? Psychosis? Sociopathic behavior?
I am horrified.
Still, there is something else that saddens me. Latoyia did not receive the rampant media attention that was directed towards Lacy Petersen, Lori Hacking, Natalee Holloway (whose whereabouts are obviously unknown, but I've long suspected she's dead), and others who met a similar fate. Most of these women were white and pretty, so does that mean that a woman of color is not? A woman is a woman period, regardless of her color. Why is one person's life more valuable than another? Why does one person get an inordinate amount of media attention when another barely gets any notice? I am perplexed. Perhaps it boils down to money.
Mind you, I watched in horror as everyone else did when Lacy went missing that Christmas Eve day. I knew, as my husband did, that she was dead, and her husband was behind it. I watched his eyes and his behavior on t.v. and it seemed odd to me; too calm, too cool, too measured and collected. Likewise I've watched the Natalee Holloway story with equally rapt attention, horrified by what happened - or might have happened; questioning whether or not her school's chaperones had any specific rules in place to protect their students, and why it appeared that there was no real supervision.
We'll never know these answers obviously. But I am concerned about the sanity of people in this world, and, why some are driven to wreak such cruelty on another they purportedly loved. What triggers this insanity in these people? Why do they assume that they can get away with murder and live their lives free of obligations and responsibility, when in fact the truth always comes back to haunt them? I don't understand. I never will. Never.
Hey Pina....how have you been my dear? Its a really sad world we are living in isn't it?
